The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from September 2024. ERO found that most students are engaged, make good progress and achieve well in a caring and accepting school culture.
Most Year 9 and 10 students meet expectations in literacy and mathematics, most achieve NCEA Levels 1 and 2, and there were no significant gaps between groups of students. ERO said the junior module programme had lifted engagement, and that students with additional and complex needs are well supported.
Attendance is the main area to work on. A majority of students attend regularly, and while rates have improved, the school was not yet meeting Ministry of Education targets.
The agreed next steps are to keep tracking and acting on attendance, build a shared approach to teaching students how to learn, keep developing programmes that motivate students to own their learning, and strengthen the form teacher’s role in helping students reach their goals.
