New Plymouth Rubbish & Recycling

Bin collection days for every New Plymouth suburb, what goes in each bin, and where to drop off everything else.

New Plymouth has a food scraps bin collected every week, plus a yellow-lid recycling bin one week and a glass crate and red-lid rubbish bin the next. Here is how to find your collection day, what goes in each bin, and where to take everything else.

Have your bins out by 7am on collection day. A few streets differ from the rest of their suburb, so check your exact address with the council’s lookup.

Good to know

Do some streets need bins out earlier?

Yes. In the central city one-way system, the Lynmouth area and streets near Taranaki Base Hospital, have bins out by 6am.

My bin wasn't collected. What now?

Call the council on 06 759 6060. The Antenno app has collection updates and bad-weather alerts.

Is there a garden bin?

No. Compost at home, take green waste to a transfer station for a fee, or use a private green waste collector.

Can I get more bins?

Extra food scraps, recycling or rubbish bins can't be provided. You can buy an extra glass crate, and extra glass is free at transfer stations.
