What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from September 2025. ERO found that success and progress are rising and that high quality teaching is improving results, with most students meeting or exceeding the expected level in reading and maths and a large majority in writing, and results are equitable across groups of students.

A large majority attend regularly and the school is approaching the government target, with a suitable plan to improve. ERO noted a strong sense of belonging, rich learning linked to the local area, good support for students with complex needs, well established planning for improvement, and reporting to parents that is getting better. It also found the school had so far only partly lifted progress for students most at risk of not achieving.

The key priorities are to build teachers’ confidence in using achievement information to guide teaching, to bring teaching into line with the updated curriculum and assessment rules through consistent, structured approaches across the school, to refine schoolwide systems so practice stays consistent, and to keep improving regular attendance.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and the school’s site says children from outside the zone are usually not eligible. Any out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

Families start by phoning the office to put their child on the pre-enrolment list, ideally about a year before they turn five, and can meet the principal and tour the school. A transition programme, Future Fitzys, runs for several weeks before a child’s first day.
