What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from September 2026, and it raises serious concerns about achievement.

ERO rated student achievement, reading and writing, and mathematics as Improvement required, its lowest judgement: less than a third of learners meet expectations for their year level in reading and writing, and results are also low in mathematics.

Outcomes for Māori learners are not yet equitable. ERO did find achievement and attendance starting to improve under new leadership, with structured literacy lifting results in the junior school. It rated engagement and belonging, leadership, support for learners with additional needs, school improvement and governance as Doing well, and noted the Whare Manaaki unit for students with high and complex needs and te reo Māori pathways.

Only a small majority of learners attend regularly, and teaching, curriculum and assessment are still working towards consistency. ERO’s next steps are to lift progress and achievement in reading, writing and mathematics for all learners, embed consistent teaching in writing and mathematics, strengthen assessment, and improve attendance. ERO will check progress every six months and publish its next report within 18 months.
