What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from December 2024. ERO found that a large majority of students are engaged in their learning, progressing well and achieving well.

Most students gain NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3, a large majority gain University Entrance, and almost all Year 10 students pass the NCEA literacy and numeracy assessments. ERO noted strong, strategic leadership, early support plans for students with additional learning needs, and well-linked attendance, engagement and pastoral systems.

ERO also raised clear concerns. Less than half of students attend school regularly, so the school is not yet meeting Ministry of Education attendance targets, and Māori students’ results at NCEA Level 1 still lag behind.

Next steps are to build a shared understanding of high-quality teaching that meets students’ learning and pastoral needs, including Māori students at Level 1, deepen staff learning about students’ cultural identity, and keep analysing attendance data to find out what lifts regular attendance.
